Grammy Award-winning singer, Wizkid at 32 today

The popular singer, Wizkid, who was born in Surulere, Lagos, on 16th July 1990, marks 32 years of age today, July 16, 2022.

Wizkid began recording music at the tender age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five (5), a group he and his church friends formed together. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E).

He rose to fame after releasing “Holla at Your Boy,” the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011).

He won his first-ever Grammy Award for Best Music Video for Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl”. Wizkid was cited as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2019. In November 2021, the Apple Music Awards announced him as the Artist of the Year (Africa) winner.

Wizkid is the most awarded African artist at the BET Awards, Soul Train Awards, Billboard Awards, and iHeartRadio Musifirst-ever MOBO Awards.

By February 2021, the king of Afropop was the most-streamed Nigerian artist of all time on Spotify, with over 3.4 billion streams across all credits.

Wizkid stated in a February 2015 interview with Alex Frank of Vogue magazine that he wears a combination of streetwear and traditional Nigerian clothing. Pharrell Williams was mentioned as one of his fashion style icons. In addition, he stated intentions to launch a clothing line after the publication of Sounds from the Other Side.
