Graham Potter Isn’t Using Sterling Right—Chelsea Legend Slams

When a player becomes a master of every position in the field of play, he becomes a master of none as it’s seen in Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling case, with the manager, Graham Potter criticized for playing the forward against his natural position.

Sterling in his Chelsea career so far has seen his position changed quite often, a lot of times affecting his performances and in certain cases, giving his best in such required positions.

William Gallas, a former defender for Chelsea, has asked manager Graham Potter to move Raheem Sterling from defense to offense in the Blues lineup.

According to Gallas, Potter should play the Forward on the right or left of the offensive front three if he wants to get the most out of him.

In the summer transfer window, Sterling moved from Manchester City to Chelsea.

The English international can play anywhere along the frontline but for the former Chelsea defender, he believes the manager has a chance to bring out the best from the player by playing Sterling in his favored position as opposed to utilizing the former Manchester City star as a utility player.

“If Graham Potter wants to get the best from Raheem Sterling, he has to play on the right or left of a three, that’s how Sterling was being used at a high level before at Liverpool and Manchester City,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“He’s always played there. So for me it is difficult to understand why, sometimes, a manager wants to play players out of position.

“After the Zagreb win, I think Potter has to play Sterling in a front three and not how he used him in the last match when he was playing wing-back.

“It was very difficult for Sterling to play there. Play him in his position and let him do what he needs to do.”
