Governor Wike to splurge ₦20m on Rivers United for Enyimba win

Nyesom Wike Rivers United

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has promised players and officials of Rivers United N20m to beat Enyimba in Aba in their first leg, second Preliminary Round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Wike stated this at the Government House, Port Harcourt while presenting two new buses to Rivers United and Rivers Angels, both owned by the state government.

Additionallly, businessman, Felix Obuah, promised to pay N2m should the Pride of Rivers win the first leg. He also promised to reward each member of the team with N200,000 for every goal they scored in the game.

He also donated a coaster bus to Rivers United Supporters’ Club and ambulances to the teams.

Wike charged Rivers United to go ahead and win the CAF Confederation Cup and watch their lives change through rewards.

He also tasked Rivers Angels to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

He promised both clubs N10m each for every away victory in their quest to win all available laurels at continental and local levels.

Wike commended both teams for bringing a positive image to the state, saying sports could serve as a catalyst for development.

Earlier, both Rivers Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye and President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Sir Honour Sirawoo, commended Wike for his vision in promoting sports development in the state.
