Governor Seyi Makinde declares interest for 2nd term

Nigerian businessman and Executive Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has declared his interest to contest the gubernatorial election in 2023, TopNaija reports.

He made this disclosure on Thursday.

Makinde was elected as governor in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He defeated the candidate of the then ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu and candidates of other political parties to emerge as the governor in 2019.

Makinde, while announcing his desire to run for another term, said that he had picked the expression of interest and nomination forms of the PDP.

He said that he would serve for another four years in office if the people of the State desired it.

“I announce that I have picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for a second term as the elected Governor of the good people of Oyo State.

“If the good people of Oyo State desire it, we will serve for four more years,” he stated.

On March 9, 2019, Makinde polled 515,621 votes defeating his closest rival, Mr Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressive Party who polled 357,982 votes. The All Progressives Congress (APC), during the General elections. Mr. Seyi Makinde was elected into the Office of the Governor of Oyo State at the 2019 Gubernatorial elections for Oyo State which held on March 9, 2019.

Seyi Makinde on 29 May 2019 was sworn in as the 28th executive Governor of Oyo State. Makinde takes over from Late Senator Abiola Ajimobi after the latter’s eight years in office.
