Google expands Chrome safety features for easier notification control

Google is rolling out an expanded Chrome safety feature that allows users to easily cancel unwanted website notifications with a single tap.

The Chrome safety feature was initially available on Pixel devices, this feature is now being extended to more Android devices.

It introduces an “unsubscribe” button directly within notifications, making it simple to stop receiving updates from websites you didn’t intend to subscribe to, like horoscopes or quirky facts about ducks. An “undo” option is also available if you decide you want to keep those notifications.

In addition, Chrome’s updated Safety Check runs in the background to automatically revoke permissions from websites you haven’t visited in a while or that pose security risks.

Users can view these actions in a summary panel, which also highlights other potential security concerns, such as compromised passwords and recommendations to update software or enable safe browsing.

Furthermore, Chrome now offers the option to grant one-time permissions for your microphone, camera, and other settings. For instance, after completing a virtual doctor visit, the browser will automatically revoke the website’s access to your camera.
