I Can't Control These Things -- Mikel Arteta On Joining Real Madrid

Mikel Arteta seems like one under serious pressure now, after the performances of last season, and for Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, there will be no more excuses tolerated.

The previous season began with the North London club giving its fans hope of a turnaround in the clubs fortunes, as they looked like a side actively fighting for Champions League places.

There was almost a time football fans felt the red side of London could topple the Blues for a top 3 finish judging from Chelsea’s inconsistency at certain periods of the season.

But like Peter Drury will say, it ended with ‘new Arsenal, same result’ as a Tottenham side toppled the Gunners at the latter stages for a Champions League spot.

And now, Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has told the manager, Mikel Arteta that he will not hesitate to sack him should he fail to get into the top 4 places again this coming season.

Merson backed his claim by explaining the Gunners hierarchy has supported the Spaniard with all he needed to do the job and finish in the top four next season and that it was up to Arteta to act now.

“Arsenal is not a project anymore and Mikel Arteta needs to show he can deliver or his job will be under threat,” He said.

According to the Gunners legend, results need to start coming in and Arsenal “need to get top four.”

“If they don’t, I think he could be in a bit of trouble.

“It’s time to deliver now. This is Arsenal Football Club. Arteta failed last season. He can’t be allowed to fail again.

“But Arteta is starting to sound like Roberto Martinez. Martinez has this way of talking after his team has lost…”

With Arsenal being active in the transfer window along with Tottenham Hotspur, indeed the clock is ticking for the Gunners.
