Georgina Onuoha, Cardi B speak against Slave trade in Libya

There have been reports of the barbaric and dehumanizing culture of slave trade happening in Libya currently.

It is shocking that in this day and age, the practice is still going on; but it seems the issue of slave trade in Libya has not gotten the priority attention it surely deserves. Most people who can speak out against it and be heard are either keeping mum or refusing to acknowledge the situation. Borrowing a quote from Martin Luther King,

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamour of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”

Actress Georgina Onuoha, however, will not keep silent about the issue.

In a video she posted on her Facebook wall, she broke down in tears as she reacted to reports of the slave trade currently happening in Libya, particularly as it affects Nigerians. She called out her Nollywood colleagues who have not used their platforms to condemn the sad development.

Another celebrity who has spoken out about it is Hiphop artist, Cardi B.

The Bodak Yellow crooner is attacking the United Nations for what she calls their silence in the face of the dehumanizing slave trade going on in Libya.

The rapper said the United Nations have refused to make the issue in Libya their priority because they are benefitting from it.

She said the UN wants Libya’s resources and as such, they are fine with the instability in Libya, because it benefits them. She went on to say that the UN never mind their business and are always up in other people’s issues, but when it comes to the issues that really matter, they go silent.
