Gallagher should not make the mistake of returning to Chelsea
Former Newcastle United player, Darren Ambrose believes it will be a grave mistake for Connor Gallagher’s career should he consider returning to Chelsea.
He said this by pointing at the mistake Jesse Lingard made by returning to Manchester United after a very productive loan spell at West Ham when he could have remained at the London club.
Ambrose maintains that Lingard was probably one of West Ham’s best players during the highly successful spell but risked all that away by returning to parent club to be a benchwarmer.
With Connor Gallagher more of the same, in that he had quite the successful loan spell at Crystal Palace to the extent he gained an England call up through his performances, Darren Ambrose believes it would be a mistake returning to Chelsea.
The former Newcastle man saw the similarities and the misery of a player Jesse Lingard became on returning to Old Trafford the season after to be given few game times while he was having his career back on track.
Hence, Darren Ambrose warns Gallagher to instead take a page out of Lingard’s story in creating a path for himself.
“I keep going back to the Jesse Lingard situation – learn from his mistakes because I think it was a mistake going back to Manchester United,” Ambrose, who also played for Crystal Palace, told talkSport.
“Gallagher has to go somewhere he is going to play. There’s an opportunity that if he stays at Chelsea and plays half the games, he could still play for England.
“But if he goes to Everton or Palace and plays all the games, it’s not really about the club anymore.” He said.
