The Federal Government through the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) sealed up some filling stations in Imo State.
Zonal Controller of DPR in Imo, Roseline Wilki disclosed this to newsmen while leading a team of officials on a routine monitoring exercise in Owerri.
Wilki said the filling stations were sealed for selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol above the authorised pump price.
She further revealed that the team was there to ensure that there is quality, to ensure availability of the product, and to ensure that the products have not been adulterated or hoarded.
“We are here to ensure that the operators are selling within the government approved pump price.
“We will definitely sanction those that are not selling within the (government approved) pump price and for the adulteration; we will make sure that they (consumers) get the right product.”
Speaking on the hike in fuel price, the DPR zonal controller urged residents in the state to disregard any rumour of an increase in the pump price of petrol.
She also asked them to report any independent marketer who sells above the normal pump price to the department.
Recall that the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Enugu Field Office, on Monday, sealed eight petrol stations in Enugu for dispensing Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, above the approved government pump price.
The Head, Operations, Mr Afam Azuike who announced, said the action was in reaction to public outcry over the weekend that petroleum marketers had arbitrarily increased the pump price PMS.
On account of this, Azuike said that the field office embarked on aggressive surveillance in the Enugu metropolis during which they inspected 29 petrol stations.
“We discovered that the major marketers sold between N162 and N175. They complained about the cost of the product at the depot as well as the freight charges from Lagos to Enugu”.
