Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State took a significant step on Monday by establishing a panel of inquiry tasked with scrutinizing the administrations of past governors, including his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

This decision was announced shortly after the assumption of office by senior jurist Dagogo Iboroma as the new Rivers’ attorney-general and commissioner for justice.

Governor Fubara emphasized the pivotal role of the newly appointed attorney-general, highlighting that one of his primary responsibilities would be to delve into the activities of former governors in the state.

He made it clear that this decision would not be reversed, setting a firm stance on the matter. “Why are we bringing you at this very critical time? You have a big task.

We will be setting up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the affairs of governance,” Fubara declared. “So, brace up; I am not going back on it.”

Fubara’s emergence as the gubernatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and subsequent victory in the 2023 elections, with the support of Wike, marked a significant political development.

However, the relationship between the two leaders soured over time, leading to heightened tensions.

This deterioration culminated in both figures utilizing their allies in the state parliament to undercut each other, including attempts to impeach Governor Fubara.
