Fresh attack in Benue States leaves scores missing, and 7 dead
A tragic incident unfolded in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State as gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders carried out a deadly attack, resulting in the loss of at least seven lives.
The assailants targeted a commercial vehicle between Arufu and Chembe villages on Sunday, unleashing gunfire on passengers and causing devastation in Mchia community.
Reports indicated that the attackers ambushed the vehicle, firing at passengers and leaving several individuals injured. Anawah Joseph, a community leader, recounted the harrowing event, highlighting the collaboration between armed Fulani herders and Jukun militias in the assault.
“Armed Fulani herders in collaboration with Jukun militias on Sunday shot at a commercial vehicle heading to Lorza where some passengers suffered injury.
“They also invaded Mchia where they slaughtered eight people,” Joseph stated in an interview with Punch.
The brutality of the attack led to the loss of seven lives, according to Rev Adagbe Jonathan, the Chairman of the Logo Local Government. He confirmed the tragic toll while expressing deep concern over the number of missing individuals following the invasion.
“It’s true that armed herders in collaboration with Jukun militias attacked my people yesterday (Sunday) at about 9 pm.
“With the help of policemen, we were able to recover five corpses Sunday night while two corpses were recovered this morning (Monday). They also shot at a commercial vehicle where two people were injured,” Chairman Jonathan disclosed to reporters.
He further revealed that while two injured individuals received medical attention at the Anyim hospital, a significant number of people remained unaccounted for, heightening the distressing aftermath of the assault.
