Four confirmed dead as speeding bus rams into moving truck in Ogun
Outcry in Ogun State as four were reported to have perished after a speeding bus rammed into moving truck.
Four lives were claimed after a tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday, July 26 along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
According to reports, a speeding Mazda bus, marked YYY412XB, was said to have crashed into an unregistered moving truck.
As confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the incident was said to have occurred at about 6:25 am on the aforementioned date, before the Iperu Bridge in Ogun State.
According to Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson, Ogun, 10 persons were involved in the crash – four male adults, five female adults, and one male child.
Okpe disclosed that five women and one man were injured in the crash, however, two male adults, one female adult, and one male child were confirmed dead.
“The suspected causes of the crash were excessive speed and light sign violation.
“The Mazda bus driver who was on high speed crashed into the moving truck from behind due to light defect on the truck, that is, the truck rear lights made to signal vehicles from behind could not function,” Okpe stated.
She added that the injured victims have been rushed to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the corpses were deposited at FOS, Ipara Morgue.
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Ogun, Ahmed Umar, issued a warning to motorists to fix the requirements in their vehicles before any trip, cautioning them on speed violations.
He sympathized with the families of the victims, advising them to contact the FRSC in Ogere for more information about the crash.
