He’s the kind of player I want in my team – Owen Hargreaves says while lauding Super Eagles star, Calvin Bassey for his performance in the Europa League final defeat to Bundesliga club, Eintracht Frankfurt.

The former United midfielder hailed the Nigerian international, describing his performance against Frankfurt in the Europa League final on Wednesday night as ‘astonishing’.

Bassey and his Rangers teammates came to an unfitting defeat on penalties by the German side after 120 minutes of resilience that saw the game finish in 1-1 draw.

Aaron Ramsey, former Arsenal player proved to be the villain of the night after missing the decisive spot kick that promptly handed the trophy to the Bundesliga side in Seville, Spain.

The former English midfielder, Hargreaves hailed the performance of the 29-year-old, insisting he is the sort of player any teammate, manager or supporter would want in their team.

“Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance,” Hargreaves said, “That was astonishing, the energy and effort. Everything about his game was fantastic. Anyone watching that will be thinking: ‘That’s the kind of player I want in my team”.

Another Nigerian international who shone on the night was Joe Aribo who played out of position on the night to make Rangers dream of Champions League football by putting Rangers in the lead in the 2nd half.

Rangers probably had the better of chances to win the Final but luck was the ultimate winner and decider. Now, they must regroup for another final against Hearts in the Scottish Cup.
