Former lawmaker urges Nigerian youths to avoid nationwide protest

A former two-term Lagos lawmaker, Mr. Jude Idimogu, has called on Nigerian youths to refrain from the proposed nationwide protest, urging them not to set the country on fire.

Idimogu, who represented Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, made this appeal during an interview with NAN on Thursday in Lagos.

As the Deputy Apex Leader of Ndigbo in Lagos State APC, Idimogu emphasized the need for Nigerian youths to avoid destructive protests and to give President Bola Tinubu more time to address and reposition the economy.

He stressed the importance of dialogue over protests that could potentially be hijacked by adversaries of the nation.

“I want all of us to be patriotic, no matter the circumstances. We know President Bola Tinubu’s background as someone who has also faced hardships before reaching his current position. He understands the pains of Nigerians,” Idimogu stated.

“The President is aware of the suffering and is working hard to alleviate it. I appeal to you to please save this nation and not let it go up in flames. I am particularly urging the Nigerian youths to refrain from actions that could destroy our country.”

Idimogu also called for unity among Nigerians in their efforts to improve the nation’s economy.

“Though tribes and tongues may differ, in brotherhood we stand. This country belongs to us because we don’t have any other place that is ours. Others may have destroyed their country, but we must not follow their footsteps. Protest is our right, but there are other channels to express opinions and engage with the government.”

Additionally, Idimogu urged the 36 state governors to support the Federal Government’s efforts in addressing the challenges faced by people at the grassroots level.

“Yes, we know there is hunger in the land, and all the 36 state governors should make a u-turn and be more patriotic because the citizens are not smiling. We are aware of the hardships, but we cannot let our country go up in flames. I appeal to the youths to be patient. We have the responsibility to save this country.”

Reports indicate that some Nigerians, under various bodies, are planning a nationwide protest from August 1 to August 10, in response to the rising cost of living and economic hardships.
