Former governor Ambode’s chef remanded for theft

The Lagos State Magistrate Court has remanded Victor Abayomi, a chef employed by former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
Abayomi is accused of taking goods worth millions of naira from the former governor’s Ikoyi mansion.
Chief Magistrate Peter Nwaka of the Sabo-Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos ordered Abayomi’s remand on Monday. The court ordered a 30-day remand and delayed the case until April 8 for further investigation and the presentation of evidence.
Abayomi, who is on trial for conspiracy and theft, is accused of committing the crimes with accomplices who are still at large in the former governor’s mansion.
According to Joshua Babalola, a legal officer with the State Security Service (SSS), Abayomi fled to Molorundo Local Government Area in Osun State and was captured by Ambode’s SSS on March 7.
Babalola accused the defendant of taking precious things worth millions of naira from the former governor’s home in Ikoyi.
The charges against Abayomi violate sections 287 and 411 of Lagos State’s Criminal Law, 2015.
