Former goalie reveals where Liverpool will falter

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has expressed concern that the Reds might struggle to maintain their strong form after the international break—a fear he says stems from what happened the last time they returned from such a pause.

Speaking to the BBC, James pointed to Liverpool’s lackluster performance against Nottingham Forest earlier in the season, which he believes was a result of the team’s disruption in training under new manager Arne Slot.

“My fear for Liverpool is post-international breaks,” James admitted.

He noted that Liverpool’s fluid, high-intensity game, so well-drilled by Slot, fell flat after the players returned from a 10-day break without the manager’s relentless training regimen.

“But, that first international break, it was 10 days of not having Slot’s training, and then they came back after a couple of days to try and get back into it. And it just didn’t work against Forest.”

Against Nottingham Forest, the Reds looked out of sync, and James is worried history might repeat itself.

Despite that hiccup, James is cautiously optimistic, pointing out that Liverpool will have an extra day to prepare for their clash with Chelsea following this break. The big question remains:

Can Arne Slot’s men avoid the post-break slump this time around, or will Chelsea be the next team to capitalize on Liverpool’s temporary disarray?
