Former England head-coach Sven-Göran Eriksson is dead

Sven-Göran Eriksson, the renowned Swedish football manager, has sadly passed away at the age of 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Sven-Göran Eriksson, best known for becoming the first foreign manager of the England men’s national team in 2001, was instrumental in leading the “golden generation” of English football, which included stars like David Beckham and Steven Gerrard. His tenure saw England reach the quarter-finals of both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, as well as Euro 2004.

Beyond his time with England, Eriksson had a successful club career across Europe, managing top teams such as Lazio, Benfica, Roma, and Manchester City.

Throughout his career, he won 18 trophies, including notable league titles and domestic cups. His management career extended beyond Europe, with stints leading national teams such as Mexico and the Ivory Coast.

Despite his illness, Eriksson fulfilled a lifelong dream in March 2023 by managing Liverpool Legends in a charity match at Anfield. Reflecting on his life, Eriksson shared in a recent documentary that he hoped to be remembered as a positive influence who always did his best.

Shortly before he passed on, Sven-Göran Eriksson had his last words to the football world, saying:

“Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Bye.”

His passing marks the end of a remarkable career in football, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by fans and players alike​.
