Former Abia State Governor, Minister Ogbonnaya Onu Passes Away

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Abia State’s first civil governor and former Minister of Science and Technology, has died after a brief illness in Nigeria.

Onu, who hailed from Ebonyi State, served as Abia State Governor from 1992 to 1993.

Later, he held the position of Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.

His passing comes after a period of illness, during which his family had planned to fly him abroad for medical treatment after the Sallah break.

“He has been sick for some time this year and his family said they would fly him abroad to get better medical treatment for him but he could not make it till then,” a source said.
