food insecurity: EFCC apprehends 21 food-loaded trucks heading to neighbouring countries
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, intercepted twenty-one trucks carrying food and non-food items destined for N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon.
Trucks were intercepted in a sting operation at key exit points along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State.
An investigation revealed that food items were skillfully hidden in the trucks, which would have gone unnoticed if not for the sharp observation of the Commission’s operatives.
Additional investigations revealed that the Waybills for the transported goods listed their destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central Africa Republic, and Cameroon.
Truck arrests are anticipated to help curb food insecurity caused by smugglers nationwide.
In a recent statement, the EFCC announced that the individuals apprehended alongside the trucks are currently undergoing profiling and will face charges once the investigations are completed.
