Not less than five persons have lost their lives, while eight others were injured in a road crash that occurred in Emure Ile on the Akure-Owo Expressway, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday.

It was gathered that crash involved a Peugeot J5 bus with number plate LSR 855 XF and a truck with number plate AKD 880 XX.

According to a source, the crash occurred around 10pm as a result of the alleged recklessness on the part of the drivers of both vehicles.

The Ondo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the accident on Tuesday and said the victims had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, by its personnel.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mrs Tola Ogunbanwo, said the crash was caused by speed limit violation and loss of concentration on the part of the drivers.

“The victims were taken to the FMC, Owo, while the remains of the deceased were deposited in the morgue of the hospital,” she stated.
