Fishing Boat Capsizes In South Korea, Leaves Nine Missing

A 24-tonne fishing boat capsized in South Korean waters off the coast of Sinan county on Saturday night, leaving 9 people missing.

 

Three crew members were rescued by a nearby boat, according to the interior ministry. The missing individuals include two foreigners and the authorities have launched a search operation, deploying more than a dozen vessels and three aircraft from the coastguard and navy. Most of the crew is believed to have left the capsized boat.

 

President Yoon Suk-yeol has urged maximum efforts for the rescue operation and has ordered the mobilization of all available resources to widen the search area.

 

The interior minister, Lee Sang-min, is closely monitoring the situation and has assured the public that all possible efforts are being made to locate the missing individuals. The cause of the boat capsizing is still under investigation, but rough seas and strong winds are believed to be contributing factors.
