Fire outbreak razes goods worth millions in Burutu Market [PHOTOS]
An early morning fire outbreak razed the popular Burutu Market in Delta State, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The fire outbreak reportedly occurred at about 3am on Tuesday.
Although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, many of the traders resorted to self-help in a bid to salvage their goods.
Other residents and passers-by also besieged the scene of the inferno, defying physical distancing guideline, as they lamented the damage done by the fire.
Some of them could not hold back their anger over the absence of the state fire service as the fire raged, but a government official was on the ground to calm the aggrieved traders.
Confirming the incident, the Financial Secretary of Burutu Community, Mr. Aminu Suyei, said it took several hours to put out the inferno.
While noting that the cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained, he said lots of goods and commodities were lost to the “mysterious inferno”.
“The fire also destroyed the community office in the market. The building was completely razed,” he stated.
