Fire destroys part of Lagos State government staff quarters

A fire broke out early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos.

The blaze affected a section of a three-storey building, according to Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The fire was reported at 2:39 a.m. via LASEMA’s emergency lines, prompting an immediate response from the agency’s team stationed at the command and control center in Alausa.

Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the fire had engulfed one of the two-bedroom units in Flat 5, Block 21, a building comprising 16 two-bedroom flats.

LASEMA’s investigation determined that the fire started in the children’s room due to a power surge. The combined efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained the blaze.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported. However, the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom and resulted in significant property damage estimated in the millions of naira. LASEMA has advised residents on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.
