A fire outbreak has damaged some parts of the State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Kano.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, affirmed the incident to Top Naija in Kano.

Abdullahi disclosed that the fire which started about 10.30 am, on Tuesday, affected the Data Processing Centre of the INEC office and a unit of the administrative section of the commission.

He said, “Even though no life was lost, but the inferno destroyed the ICT office and a block in the administrative office of the commission.”

An eyewitness told Top Naija that the fire was controlled by both the Federal and Kano state fire services.

“They arrived about 20 minutes after the fire outbreak.

“Even though the delay has added to the fire to burn almost all the building, but they were able to control the situation.”

Some staff members, who witnessed the incident, stated that the fire started subsequent to the fluctuations of electric power supply which suddenly caused some air conditioners at the centre to blow up.

“In the data centre are laptops, batteries and other related gadgets for data processing activities,” one of them stated.

They further said that close to the data centre is a box comprising card readers but they were not destroyed.
