FG declares Public Holiday for Easter
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government has announced Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday, as conveyed in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako.
In the statement, the Minister encouraged Christians and all Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifice and love demonstrated by Jesus Christ in his crucifixion, emphasizing the significance of Easter in promoting values such as love, forgiveness, and compassion. These values, he noted, are vital for fostering social cohesion and harmony in society.
Beyond its religious import, the Minister highlighted the potential of Easter to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by fostering unity, reducing conflicts, and encouraging cooperation among Nigerians. He urged Christians to embody these virtues and contribute to the nation’s progress.
Additionally, the Minister called on Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity towards the less privileged, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all under the leadership of President Tinubu.
