Eid-el-Kabir: FG declares Tuesday, Wednesday public holidays

The Federal Government has proclaimed Friday 2nd and Monday 5th April 2021 Public Holidays to mark Easter Celebration of this year.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this on behalf of the Federal Government.

This is enclosed in a statement endorsed by the Director (Press & Public Relations) of the Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga, and issued on March 30, 2021.

According to the statement, the Minister appealed to Christians to follow the qualities of patience, forbearance, compassion, humility, love, peace and tolerance, which were exhibited by Jesus Christ.

Aregbesola appealed to them to utilise the time to pray for the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.

He guaranteed that the Federal Government is doing everything to deal with abduction, armed banditry and different crimes and misconduct which he declares is executed by enemies of Nigeria.

Aregbesola said, “Security is everybody’s business, I, therefore, encourage all Nigerians and foreigners resident in Nigeria, to display high level of patriotism at this critical time in the history of our country, to support the efforts of all security agencies in ensuring peace and security of lives and property of the citizenry.”

He urged Nigerians to join hands with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in its determination to make life more significant to citizens of Nigeria.

Easter or Resurrection Sunday is a Christian festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary.

The resurrection of Jesus, which Easter celebrates, is one of the chief tenets of the Christian faith. The resurrection established Jesus as the Son of God and is cited as proof that God will righteously judge the world.

The week before Easter, known as Holy Week, is very special in the Christian tradition. The Sunday before Easter is Palm Sunday, with the Wednesday before Easter being known as Spy Wednesday.

In Christian countries where Christianity is a state religion, or where the country has large Christian population, Easter is often a public holiday. As Easter always falls on a Sunday, many countries in the world also have Easter Monday as a public holiday.
