FG cautions foreign investors against enslaving Nigerians Top Naija

The Federal Government on Monday cautioned foreign investors against endangering Nigerians working in their organisations to industrial slavery.

The government said the caution was essential after several complaints against foreign organisations treating some of their staff badly.

The Chief Commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Chile Igbawua, issued a word of caution during a courtesy call on him by Pan Africa United Youth Developments Network delegate.

The delegate came to lay complaint against some foreign organisations supposedly mistreating Nigerians working under them.

The PCC said that it would not permit just its state commissioners to deal with the issues because they were many as there had been countless complaints about the manners in which some of the foreign organisations were treating their staff.

At the occasion, the delegate’s leader, Habib Muhammed, showed concern over supposed injustice and misdeeds committed by some organisations on Nigerian youths whom they employed as factory workers.

He appealed to the Federal Government to investigate the supposed slavery and injustice doled out to Nigerian youths.

While appealing to the foreigners to comply with the labour laws of Nigeria, Igbawua said, “Our resources cannot be used to enslave us again.”

He said, “We have labour laws in Nigeria for goodness sake and we also have industrial standards; people working in various industries are entitled to good working conditions and minimum conditions of service.”

In addition, he said that the law was explicit on the issue of casualisation and should be carried out.
