FCT Minister congratulates re-elected NUJ Chairman

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello,  congratulated Emmanuel Ogbeche on his re-election as the Chairman of the FCT Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ), this was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye.

Recalls that Ogbeche had during an election of the Abuja NUJ, polled 450 of the 518 total votes cast to defeat his major opponent, Donald Ugwu of the News Agency of Nigeria who scored 59 votes.

The Minister noted that Ogbeche was the first Council Chairman to win a re-election bid in almost two decades, his victory signifies a purposeful leadership.

Malam Bello congratulated the Council for the peaceful conduct of the election and also felicitated with other members of the new Executive Committee.

The Minister welcomed the pledge by the Council Chairman to work with the Federal Capital Territory Administration to realize the objectives of “a city that works for all”.

Bello also pledged that the FCT Administration would continue to render support to the NUJ to ensure good governance in the nation’s capital.

NUJ was founded on 15 March 1955 in Lagos during the Nigeria’s struggle for independence from British rule. It is affiliated to the Nigeria Labour Congress. Its membership grew from 3,950 in 1988 to 35,000 in 2005.
