FCT approves N33.24 billion contracts for projects

The Federal Capital Executive Committee has sanctioned contracts worth N33.24 billion to be executed within the next year, a move aimed at enhancing critical services for residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The approvals were made during the committee’s 9th meeting, chaired by FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike, held in Abuja on Friday.

Following the meeting, Mr. Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to the Minister, highlighted that these decisions align with the FCT administration’s commitment to improving essential services in the region.

Dr. Chinedum Elechi, Mandate Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat, provided insights into specific projects approved, including N7.22 billion for constructing access roads to the Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals. These access roads are essential as the terminals are already in advanced stages of construction.

The contract for this project has been awarded to Planet Projects Ltd, with an anticipated completion timeline of 12 weeks. Additionally, the committee has approved the procurement of 120,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel) and 40,250 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the operation and maintenance of the Wupa Basin Sewage Treatment Plant, with contracts valued at N2.92 billion awarded to Safah and Fresh Ltd.

Other notable approvals include N638.55 million for 400,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil for the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant and a N7.83 billion contract for constructing an access road to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Academy in Giri District, awarded to Levant Construction Ltd.

Moreover, the committee has greenlighted the design and construction of 10 staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, which has been awarded at N2.19 billion to Austlinks Energy Services Ltd. This project is expected to be completed in nine months.

In a significant infrastructure improvement, N9.88 billion was approved for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Bill Clinton Road, linking to the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with Julius Berger awarded the contract. This project aims to enhance facilities at the airport, including the Presidential Hangar, taxiway, and apron.

Lastly, Mr. Gardiya Bawa, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Legal Secretariat announced an allocation of N605.94 million for procuring office equipment, furnishing the new office for the secretariat, and acquiring utility vehicles.
