Fans celebrate World Wizkid Day on social media

Popular Nigerian music star, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun is known professionally as Wizkid; as lots of fans have taken to social media to celebrate World Wizkid Day.

The iconic singer was born on July 16, 1990 in Surulere, Lagos. He is the artiste with the most award nominations in Nigeria.

Mark Dayton, the former Governor of Minnesota USA, declared October 6 as “Wizkid Day” in 2018, a yearly celebration to honour him for his achievements in the entertainment industry. In 2019, his fans set February 4th of every year to celebrate the singer.

Fans have taken to social media to celebrate the star boy.

A fan page, @TeamWizkidFc wrote on Twitter, “Every FEBRUARY 4 was set aside to celebrate the KING of Afrobeat @wizkidayo for his greatness and contribution to the development of Africa music at large. #WorldWizkidDay Red heartEagle.”

@iam_daymoo states that Wizkid has inspired every artiste in Nigeria. “Wizkid has inspired every artist in Nigeria and some part of Africa and the world… God bless you king #WorldWizkidDay,” the user tweeted.

Wizkid was born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid (sometimes stylized as WizKid). He is the first Nigerian singer to win National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP Image Award.

His collaboration with Beyoncé for the track “Brown Skin Girl” off her “The Gift” album won an award at the 51st NAACP Image Awards.

He is the first African to bag an international award from The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

Wizkid is one of Africa’s biggest artistes, the most decorated African artist internationally, and one of the most revolutionary Afro-pop artistes of the modern era.

The star boy is the first Afro-pop artiste to appear in the Guinness Book of World Records. This is as a result of his contribution to Drake’s smash hit, “One Dance”, which topped charts worldwide.
