Gareth Southgate Drops Arsenal Star From England Squad

If there is something Joey Barton isn’t after England’s loss to France in the Qatar world cup quarter-final, it is being pro-Gareth Southgate, despite reactions from a section of the English fan base on Southgate keeping his job as head coach.

Joey Barton, who stands a former midfielder for Manchester City, he advises the England manager Gareth Southgate to step down in the wake of the Three Lions’ elimination from the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

England lost to France 2-1 over the weekend, and as a result, was ousted from the World Cup in the quarterfinal.

In charge of 52 victories, 15 losses, and an equal number of draws, Southgate is England’s most successful manager since Sir Alf Ramsay.

Barton, who is in charge of Bristol Rovers in EFL League 1, feels that Southgate should step down from his position as head coach of England, and stands of the opinion that failure should not be rewarded.

On Monday, Barton tweeted via his Twitter account:

“Can’t believe Southgate hasn’t resigned yet. That’s two World Cups and a home European Championship we could/should have won.

“Stop rewarding failure. Got to go. Time to hire somebody who can win.”

Joey Barton’s words could be seen from the perspective of the Three Lions going into major tournaments but falling too short of the prize at every turn of the way, starting with the 2018 world cup semi-final against France, the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

Again like déjà vu, France eliminates the English side but this time in the quarter-final to earn a berth in the semi-final against Morocco.
