Over the weekend, the prestigious Soundcity MVP awards held yesterday at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, Nigeria’s most raving artiste of 2018.

Burna Boy was the biggest winner of the night, waltzing away with four awards which includes ‘Listeners Choice’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Male MVP’ and ‘African Artist of the year’ off the back of his smashing single, ‘Ye.’

The singer however was unfortunately unavailable to take his walk of glory to the podium to receive his awards and was represented by his mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, who accepted them on his behalf and offered an explanation why the star singer was absent at the event.

Mrs Ogulu in her speech while accepting the singer’s award for ‘Artiste of the Year’ revealed that Burna Boy couldn’t attend the event because he was out of the country. She however said the singer expresses his gratitude to all his fans and supporters who helped to make 2018 a memorable one for him.

‘I also want to thank Kanye West for making a mistake to name his album Ye’, as she recalled the effect which the American rapper and producer’s last album had on the global exposure of Burna’s song.

While concluding her speech, she asked Nigerians to ‘get ready for more madness’ from her son in 2019 and they had a lot in place to make the new year even more eventful.
