In a recent interview with This Nigerian’s top youth platform, Topnaija, Nelsing opens up about his much-anticipated return to the music scene after a prolonged break. Fans have been curious about his absence, and in this exclusive conversation, Nelsing sheds light on his journey, the challenges he faced, and what to expect from his latest musical endeavours.

Welcome back! What inspired your return to the music scene after all these years?

Nelsing clarifies that he never truly left the music scene. “I never left,” he asserts. “I just added a few business ventures that took my time, but it had to be taken care of before I could put out another single.

Your new single is already gaining attention. How does it feel to be back in the spotlight?

For Nelsing, returning to the music he loves and seeing the positive reception is immensely gratifying. “It feels good doing what you love to do and seeing people loving it,” he says, expressing his appreciation for the warm welcome from fans.

What has changed for you as an artist since your last time in the industry?

Nelsing reflects on his growth, attributing it mainly to age and experience. “Just age and experience,” he notes. “It’s the same stuff in different ways all the time,” indicating that while the music industry evolves, the core essence of his artistry remains constant.

Did you face any challenges while working on your new music after such a long break?

Returning to the studio wasn’t without its hurdles. Nelsing admits, “Yeah, it’s not easy putting together different songs to make one song; it takes time and concentration.” His words highlight the dedication and effort required to create music that resonates with his audience.

How does this new project differ from your previous work?

Nelsing’s latest project is a reflection of his evolving sound while maintaining his signature creativity. “Just updated sounds, that’s all. Same creativity,” he explains, emphasizing that while the production has been modernized, the heart of his music remains unchanged.

During your time away, what were some of the most significant lessons you learned about the music industry?

Well, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that whatever you do, make sure you’re chasing money. Money makes the music business easier. Without it, you can only get so far. It’s the backbone of everything in this industry.

Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently in your earlier career?

Yeah, definitely. I would have been more of a “bad guy,” to be honest, instead of always being the nice guy. People tend to take advantage of that. Sometimes, being too nice can hold you back, so I’d probably have been a bit tougher in my decisions.

What advice would you give to up-and-coming artists based on your experiences?

My advice? Whatever you’re good at, don’t do it for free. Your talent is valuable, and people need to recognize that from the start. Don’t undersell yourself.

How have your personal and professional experiences during your time away influenced your new music?

Not really, the talent has always been there. It’s just that now, there’s a little more maturity in the lyrics. My experiences have helped me grow, but the core of what I do remains the same.

What do you think are the biggest changes in the music industry since you first rose to fame?

The major challenge is always finance. It’s not easy without it. The industry has evolved in many ways, but the struggle to get the financial backing you need to push your music hasn’t changed. If anything, it’s become even more crucial.

Can you share with us where you’ve been and what you’ve been up to during your time away from music?

I’ve mostly been in Lagos, with just a few travels here and there. But I’ve been around, staying close to home and handling a few business ventures that needed my attention.

Was stepping away from the spotlight a conscious decision, or did it just happen naturally?

It wasn’t really intentional. Things just happened, and some matters needed to be taken care of before I could fully focus on music again.

How did your time away help you grow as a person and as an artist?

My time away definitely helped improve my ideas and experience in business, not just music. I’ve learned a lot about how to manage different aspects of my career, which has made me more well-rounded as an artist and a businessman.

Were there moments during your hiatus when you thought you might not return to music?

No, not at all. You can’t run away from something you love and enjoy doing. Music is in my blood, so I always knew I’d come back when the time was right.

Did you continue to create music privately during your break, or was this new project your first return to songwriting and performing?

I never really stopped creating music. Even though I wasn’t in the spotlight, I was still writing and playing around with new ideas. This new project is just the first time I’m sharing what I’ve been working on with the world.

Now that you’re back, what can your fans expect from you in the near future?

Fans can expect more music, of course, and maybe a few surprises along the way. I’m back and fully focused, so they should be ready for a lot of new sounds and experiences.

Are there any collaborations or new ventures you’re particularly excited about?

Yes, there are a few collaborations in the works that I’m really excited about. I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but let’s just say there are some big things coming.

What legacy do you hope to leave with your comeback?

I want my comeback to show that it’s never too late to return to your passion. I hope to inspire others to keep going, no matter the setbacks. My legacy should be one of resilience, creativity, and staying true to oneself.

How do you plan to balance your past success with your current goals as an artist?

I see my past success as a foundation to build on. I’m not trying to recreate the past but to use it as a stepping stone to achieve even greater things. My focus now is on growth and evolving as an artist while staying connected to the roots that made me who I am.

Finally, what message do you have for your fans who have been waiting for your return?

To all my fans, thank you for your patience and unwavering support. I’ve missed you all, and I’m excited to share this new chapter with you. The wait is over, and I promise you it’ll be worth it. Let’s make some magic together!
