On Friday, 4th November 2016, Lagos-based church Daystar Christian Centre brought its annual Excellence in Leadership conference to a grand close.

The Excellence in Leadership Conference is an annual leadership development conference that converged Africa’s finest leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and innovators to share leadership lessons and ideas that will transform the current state of affairs in Nigeria and across the continent of Africa.

Speaking at the event, David Oyedepo, Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Worldwide challenged Nigerians to shun mediocrity and take responsibility for their future.  He said “Until you’re out of your comfort zone, you can’t make the greatest of impact. Only those who stay focused on their task end up as front-liners. No world-changer runs a normal schedule. No leader of worth lives a normal lifestyle.”

Also present at the event was media entrepreneur Mo Abudu, who encouraged the youth to dream big and pursue their dreams while sharing the inspiring story behind founding her EbonyLife TV. The convener,  Sam Adeyemi in his concluding remarks stated that if leaders would develop character and competence, then the present state of the country will be improved.

Adeyemi explained that the theme of the conference was given to him by inspiration from God and it was built around the church’s 2016 theme “Taking Territories”. Speaking on the current state of the nation, he said “I describe this government as transition government in the sense that there are people who are interested in serving  and also there are people who are there for their selfish interest. Educating the masses on what the real issue and taking immediate action is will get the country out of recession.

He further stated that corruption does not only involve embezzlement of money but that corruption is an act of engaging in any form of illegal behavior,  also stating that not only the government officials are corrupt but the young ones on the street as well. He also noted that every sector in the country  is corrupt.  According to him, corruption in the state will continue to be if the basic needs of citizens are not met and that until we compel the politicians to serve Nigerians and serve aright, people will not be kept out of the street.

Speakers that graced the highly impactful conference include Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Worldwide, Dr. David Oyedepo; Convener, Global Leadership Summit, Bill Hybels; Vice-President, Famfa Oil, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija; Senior Pastor, Jesus House for All Nations, Agu Irukwu; CEO, MoDe Group, Julian Kyula; CEO, EbonyLifeTV, Mo’ Abudu; Co-founder, RED Media Africa, Chude Jideonwo; CEO, LeadCapital, Abimbola Olashore; Founder, Real Woman Foundation, Nike Adeyemi and the convener, Sam Adeyemi.
