Ex Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari Shows Disappointment, Alleges Betrayal Over Senate Presidency Election
Former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has recently voiced his dismay and claimed betrayal by his colleagues in the contest for the Senate Presidency of the 10th National Assembly.
During an interview in Abuja on Thursday, Senator Yari expressed his disappointment over the outcome of the Senate Presidency election, where he contested but ultimately lost to Godswill Akpabio, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Yari revealed that he was leading in the race for the number three political position until Monday, but unfortunately, things did not unfold as he had expected.
He stated that his calculations as of 3 am on Tuesday indicated that he would secure at least 61 out of the 109 available votes.
However, during the election held on Tuesday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, Senator Yari obtained 46 votes, while Godswill Akpabio garnered 63 votes, ultimately securing the position of Senate President.
Despite the alleged betrayal and his loss in the Senate Presidency contest, Senator Yari expressed his belief that only God comprehends the intricacies of what transpired.
“Yes, I can say there was a betrayal. That’s the truth because as we are taking stock as of 3 am, Monday-Tuesday election, we took stock of over 76. But as usual, human beings, we thought we are going to get a pullout of about 15 which we will have a comfortable 61 to win the election.
“But it’s become the reverse which only God knows what happened. So, I feel betrayed but life continues and it’s a cycle,” he was quoted by Channels TV to have said during the interview.
