Ex Manchester United player, Wes Brown declared bankrupt, one year after divorce
Former Manchester United and England defender, Wes Brown, has been declared bankrupt, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
The bankruptcy petition was filed by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) against the 43-year-old at the end of February 2023, and the High Court confirmed the action on April 12, with the order made public earlier this week.
Brown, who earned a substantial salary of approximately £50,000 per week during his time in the Premier League, has faced financial challenges since his split from his wife Leanne, 46, who was a reality TV star on the show Real Housewives of Cheshire.
The couple, who share three children together, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Peckforton Castle near Tarporley, Cheshire, in 2009.
It has been reported that Wes Brown moved out of the home he shared with Leanne and their children, Halle, Lilia, and Lola, following their separation.
The bankruptcy order comes one year after their divorce, indicating that Brown may have faced financial difficulties following the dissolution of their marriage.
Wes Brown, known for his successful football career with Manchester United and the England national team, is not the first former football player to face financial challenges after retiring from the sport.
Despite earning substantial salaries during their playing days, some athletes struggle to manage their finances after retirement, leading to issues such as bankruptcy.
