Everton fans slam Harry Kane as an embarrassment

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been accused of being an “embarrassment” by furious Everton fans after his involvement in an incident that saw Abdoulaye Doucoure receive a straight red card during Monday’s Premier League match at Goodison Park.

The game was goalless and both sides were struggling to find a breakthrough midway through the second half when Kane fouled Everton midfielder Demarai Gray in the centre of the pitch. Kane then collided with Doucoure and both players swung wildly at the ball.

Kane grabbed Doucoure’s shirt, prompting an angry reaction from the Everton player who pushed the Tottenham man in the face. Kane fell to the ground and Doucoure was shown a straight red card by referee David Coote for his actions. Both sets of players then clashed, and the benches also cleared in an ugly scene.

Harry Kane was later shown a yellow card for his role in the melee. Tottenham went on to take advantage of their extra man and took the lead from the penalty spot a few minutes later after Cristian Romero was fouled in the box. Kane scored his 22nd Premier League goal of the season from the spot.

Everton fans on social media were angry with Kane’s behaviour, accusing him of overreacting to Doucoure’s push.

One fan on Twitter called Doucoure an “idiot” and accused Kane of deserving an Oscar. Another fan said that Kane should be ashamed of going down so easily and called him a disgrace as the England captain. A third fan labelled Kane an “absolute embarrassment”.

Tottenham were also reduced to ten men themselves later in the game when substitute Lucas Moura was shown a straight red card for a terrible challenge on Everton defender Michael Keane.

Fortunately, Keane was not seriously injured and was able to continue playing. Just minutes later, Keane produced a remarkable strike to level the scores for Everton with a thunderbolt from 25 yards out. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
