Everton could be ducked more points again

The Premier League isn’t ready to give Merseyside club, Everton a breather as the new season closes in.

With the premier league set to kick off next weekend, the Toffees face a renewed threat of another points deduction prior to the start date as authorities within the league lay a new claim over the club’s alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

According to the authorities, Everton are said to have breached their PSR rules by an extra £6.5 million. This seems to be from a similar issue that faced the Toffees last season when the premier league ducked 10-points in the early stage of the 2023/24 season before a later appeal saw the points reduced to 6-points.

Everton also made an appeal against it, which they later withdrew. In that campaign, the Merseyside club were found by an independent commission to have breached the PSR rules by £16.6m for the three-year period between the Covid-19 season to 2022-23 which they currently still stand accused of prior to the start of the 2024/25 season.

It will be interesting to see what comes off this report and how the case could affect the Toffees’ season.

Everton throughout last season was part of so many narratives, with lots of pundits questioning fair play on the part of the premier league for investing more interest on the Toffees’ breach of regulations while staying quiet over Manchester City’s alleged 115 breaches of Financial Fair Play.
