“Even Spurs know it” — Bruno Fernandes
Manchester United’s chaotic afternoon against Tottenham took a turn for the worse when Bruno Fernandes saw red in the first half, but it was what James Maddison said after the challenge that caught everyone off guard.
According to Bruno Fernandes, the Spurs midfielder himself believed the call was over the top, telling him, “It’s a foul, but never a red card.”
The sending off, which left many scratching their heads, saw Fernandes slip on the Old Trafford pitch before colliding with Maddison’s shin.

The decision was made swiftly by referee Chris Kavanagh, without intervention from VAR, leaving the Portuguese captain fuming. “It’s never a red card. A yellow maybe, but not that,” Fernandes vented after the match, questioning why VAR didn’t recommend a second look.
While Maddison showed sympathy, United legend Gary Neville was far from forgiving. Commentating on the game, Neville lashed out at United’s performance, labeling it “an absolute disgrace” and singling out Fernandes’ challenge as indicative of a larger issue.
“He’s gone knee high,” Neville remarked, acknowledging the slip but maintaining that Fernandes’ reaction epitomized United’s disastrous first half.
