Lewandoski: Guardiola played a role in me joining Barcelona

The situation at Manchester United is for sure something former Liverpool defender, Steve Nicol cannot wrap his head around, as he sees no better way to fix the club, not even the legendary, Pep Guardiola.

Steve Nicol in his reaction, slams the Manchester United hierarchy in charge of recruitment, questioning if they knew what they were doing.

The former Liverpool defender does not believe any coach in the world can solve United problems, claiming even a switch for Pep Guardiola to Old Trafford would do nothing to salvage the Red Devils.

Steve Nicol does not see any faults with the current manager, Erik ten Hag, theorizing the fault lies in the club’s recruitment policy for not signing good players.

The former Liverpool defender based his comments off of the recent opening day loss to Brighton at the Red devils’ home ground of Old Trafford.

Speaking to ESPN, Steve Nicol said:

“This Manchester United team, this squad of players, absolutely confirms that it doesn’t matter how good the coach is. If you have players who are not capable of playing at a level where the club should be, it’s not going to happen.

“You can stay from 9am to 9pm on the training field, but if the players are not good enough, if they can’t take it in and can’t deliver it, you have to get players out the door and bring in players who can do it.

“Whoever has been bringing these players through the door, they don’t know what they are doing.

“You can go and switch Erik ten Hag to Manchester City and bring over Pep Guardiola to Manchester United, they would still be getting beat.”
