Euro 2024: "Rashford could have made a difference vs. Denmark"

Following England’s 1-1 draw with Denmark, Marcus Rashford’s brother, Dwaine Maynard, took to social media to express his frustration with the team’s performance, sparking widespread discussion among fans and pundits.

The match, held in Frankfurt, saw Harry Kane give England the lead with a close-range effort, only for Denmark’s Morten Hjulmand to equalize with a stunning 25-yard strike before half-time. The second half saw a lackluster display from the Three Lions, with few clear-cut chances, notably a Bukayo Saka header that hit the side netting. Manager Gareth Southgate’s decision to substitute both Kane and Saka in an attempt to alter the game failed to yield the desired result, and England had to settle for a draw.

Notably absent from Southgate’s squad was Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, who was omitted from the provisional 33-man squad due to what Southgate described as other players having had better seasons. This decision has been a point of contention, especially after Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, shared his disappointment on Instagram.

“It’s hard to sit and watch when you honestly believe your man could make a difference!” Maynard posted, reflecting a sentiment shared by many fans who believe Rashford’s presence could have been pivotal in the match against Denmark.

Rashford has been a mainstay in England’s squad since his debut in 2016, participating in every major tournament. He was a joint top scorer for England at the 2022 World Cup alongside Bukayo Saka, scoring three goals in the group stage. Despite a challenging 2023/24 season where he netted eight goals in all competitions, Rashford concluded the season as an FA Cup winner, further cementing his credentials.

Since the draw, there has been considerable debate about whether the 26-year-old forward could have made a difference in Germany, with many echoing Maynard’s sentiments.

As England continues their Euro 2024 campaign, the decision to leave out Rashford will remain a hot topic, with fans and analysts alike scrutinizing every performance and substitution made by Southgate.
