The match, held in Berlin, Germany, saw an intense battle between the two teams, culminating in a last-minute goal by Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal.

Nico Williams had initially put Spain ahead early in the second half, showcasing the team’s offensive prowess. England, determined to stay in the game, found an equalizer through Cole Palmer, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.

As the clock ticked down, Oyarzabal’s decisive 86th-minute strike cemented Spain’s place in history, earning them their fourth European Championship title. This victory adds to their impressive tally of wins in 1964, 2008, and 2012, further solidifying Spain’s legacy in international football.

England’s attempt to stage a comeback in the dying moments of the match was thwarted by a solid Spanish defense, with Dani Olmo making a crucial intervention to deny Marc Guehi. The defeat marks a poignant moment for the Three Lions, as they become the first team to lose consecutive Euro finals, following their penalty shootout loss to Italy in 2021.

Despite England’s persistent efforts, their quest for a major international title remains unfulfilled since their 1966 World Cup triumph.

It should be noted that former Spain international and Liverpool player, Fernando Torres in his preview for the game gave an accurate prediction of the score line, correctly predicting a 2-1 victory for Spain.
