Euro 2024: "Andy Robertson is coming out with rubbish" -- Roy Keane

In a scathing post-match analysis, Roy Keane did not hold back in his criticism of Andy Robertson following Scotland’s 5-1 defeat to Germany in their Euro 2024 opener. The tournament hosts dominated the game on Friday, leaving Scotland with a dismal start to their campaign.

Germany established a commanding 3-0 lead by halftime, with goals from Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz. Second-half substitutes Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can added to Scotland’s woes, sealing a comprehensive victory for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Scotland’s captain, Andy Robertson, faced backlash on social media for his performance, especially for an incident early in the match. Post-game, Robertson spoke to ITV, expressing his disappointment in the team’s first-half performance.

“First half we got it all wrong. Didn’t show up, weren’t good enough,” Robertson admitted. “There was a lot of things wrong about today, we have to sort it. It’s a quick turnaround to Tuesday. If we go in there and sit back down, I don’t think we can say we played to our maximum and you have to do that.”

However, Keane, speaking in the studio, was unimpressed with Robertson’s remarks, branding them as “rubbish.”

“You’ve gotta hit people… Andy Robertson is coming out with rubbish,” Keane retorted.

“They were on about creating history, they created history alright by being so bad. It’s no good talking about the game, ‘we had a game plan’. It’s rubbish coming out (of him). He said ‘we’ll be angry tomorrow’; you have to be angry for a long time.”
