Euro 2024: England hit with déjà vu as major concerns arise

As England prepares for the Euro 2024 final, major concerns have surfaced over star player Jude Bellingham’s fitness, casting a shadow over the team’s prospects. Following a hard-fought 2-1 victory against the Netherlands in the semi-finals, Gareth Southgate’s squad faces a potential crisis with Bellingham possibly requiring surgery.

Bellingham, who had a phenomenal season with Real Madrid, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists, has struggled to maintain his form during the Euros.

Injuries and fatigue have taken their toll, with Bellingham reportedly playing through significant pain due to a dislocated shoulder sustained in November. Despite wearing a brace and relying on painkillers, the 21-year-old midfielder’s condition has not improved, raising the possibility of surgery.

Real Madrid Head Scout Juni Calafat, present at the semi-final in Dortmund, expressed concerns about Bellingham’s physical state. Madrid fears that Bellingham is “at the limit” and that surgery might be inevitable if his pain persists. Such a procedure would sideline him for several months, a prospect that Madrid is keen to avoid.

Despite these challenges, Bellingham has been a pivotal figure in England’s campaign, playing nearly every minute and displaying immense resilience. His potential absence from the final could be a significant blow to England’s hopes of lifting the trophy.

As the Euro 2024 final approaches, all eyes will be on Bellingham’s fitness and whether he can overcome this hurdle to help his team to glory.
