Erik ten Hag is like Sir Alex Ferguson—Rio Ferdinand
There is no doubt that when Manchester United’s glory days are talked about, Sir Alex Ferguson has to be mentioned in the sequence.
The legendary manager embodied the history and glory of Manchester United, the era rival fans dreaded but United fans long for, as ever since his exit, glory no longer smiled on the Red Devils.
But for Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand though, he sees those glory days coming back, and he sees them in new manager, Erik ten Hag.
Speaking about both managers, Rio Ferdinand compared Sir Alex Ferguson with Erik ten Hag, as he pointed at their similarity in style of play and authoritative tactics.
In a media session with FootballjOE, Rio Ferdinand states:
“I wouldn’t say it’s reminiscent of anybody, I just think it’s him, and I like it. I like the authoritative behavior.
“I like the way he’s very sure and clear on what he wants. If you’re not carrying that out, he’s going to tell you. If I think back to when I played, I responded better to that. I want to know what you want, and I’m going to try and do it as best I can.
“I didn’t like grey areas. I think a lot of players are like that, they just want to be told what they want. I feel very positive about it, and when you’re watching the performances, I don’t really take much consideration into results in pre-season.
“But it’s a nice indication into the way they’re playing, which is good. Whether that carries out into the season remains to be seen, but what we’re seeing at the moment is making me feel a lot more positive than I have been in recent years.”
Of course, it’s quite a bold statement to start seeing Sir Alex Ferguson in Erik ten Hag at this stage, judging just from the pre-season fixtures, but Manchester United die hard will very much wish it to be so.
