Enzo Fernandez almost got into a fight with Liverpool fan

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez found himself in an uncomfortable situation during the aftermath of the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, as a Liverpool fan’s mockery drew attention during the medal ceremony.

Since his record-breaking transfer from Benfica to Chelsea in 2023, Fernandez has faced scrutiny for not meeting the high expectations set for him. With hopes of redeeming a lackluster season, both Fernandez and Chelsea entered Sunday’s final against Liverpool with aspirations of securing silverware.

However, Liverpool dashed those hopes with a late, decisive goal from Virgil van Dijk in the 118th minute, clinching the trophy for Jurgen Klopp’s side and leaving Chelsea crestfallen.

As Chelsea’s players, including Fernandez, approached the Wembley balcony to collect their runners-up medals, a Liverpool fan took the opportunity to mock the Argentine midfielder. Video footage circulating on social media captured the fan shouting “Enzo, unlucky lad,” followed by laughter, aimed directly at Fernandez.

Momentarily halted by the taunt, Fernandez paused to exchange a glance with the fan before being guided up the steps by a teammate, averting a potential confrontation.

The Liverpool fan, evidently finding the incident amusing, continued to laugh as Fernandez withdrew from the scene. The episode added a sour note to Chelsea’s disappointment, with further instances of mockery alleged from other quarters.

Reports suggested that Manchester City may have indirectly taunted Chelsea through a social media post, while Liverpool’s Conor Bradley seemingly directed a post-match message at Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell on Instagram.
