Enugu mega asphalt plant inaugurated to boost road projects

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has announced the inauguration of a new mega asphalt plant in Emene, Enugu East Council Area.

The plant has the capacity to produce 3,200 tons of asphalt daily, a significant step towards improving road infrastructure in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday, Governor Mbah highlighted the plant’s potential to drastically reduce the cost of road construction by allowing the state to produce its own asphalt and related materials. This initiative is in line with his campaign promise to construct 10,000 kilometers of roads within eight years.

“This state-of-the-art asphalt production plant will produce 160 tons of asphalt per hour,” Mbah stated. “If we operate it for 20 hours daily, it will yield 3,200 tons of asphalt, a capacity not seen elsewhere in the South-East region.”

The governor also announced plans to inaugurate a stone mining and crushing plant in the coming days, which will provide the necessary raw materials for asphalt production. He expressed optimism about starting the exploration of bitumen in the state, leveraging Enugu’s natural resources.

“Our goal is to pave a minimum of 1,000 kilometers of roads every year,” Mbah added. “This will transform our urban and rural road networks, and we have already approved N183 billion for the construction of 141 urban roads and 20 rural roads.”

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Gerald Otiji, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Development and Implementation, Uchenna Nwatu, praised the plant’s eco-friendly features. Technical Manager Mitesh Prajapati highlighted that the plant, manufactured by Fabhind, is built to high standards and will contribute to smoother, safer, and more durable road networks across the state.

This project marks a major milestone in Enugu State’s efforts to improve its infrastructure and economic growth, as the new plant brings the state closer to its ambitious road construction goals.
