In anticipation of nationwide protests against poor governance starting on August 1, a disturbing video has surfaced showing thugs intimidating market traders on Lagos Island.

The widely circulated footage reveals the thugs moving through the market, issuing threats to traders and warning of severe consequences if their demands are not met.

One individual in the video is heard saying, “Nigerians, you are not the only people hungry. Do not come out on August 1st to protest. Well, if you get the mind to come out, see what will happen to you.”

Organizers of the August 1 to 10, 2024 nationwide protest in Nigeria have disclosed detailed plans for the demonstration in response to a request from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Details of the protest, including venues and locations, were outlined in a letter from Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, attorney for the protest organizers, addressed to the IGP. Adegboruwa also requested the contact details of police officers designated to oversee the protests. Read more here.
