#EndBadGovernance protests sponsors placed on watchlist

The Nigerian Government has escalated its efforts against the sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests. The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), Kemi Nandap, revealed that individuals supporting the protests from abroad have been placed on a watchlist and face immediate arrest upon entering the country.

During a strategic meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, convened by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, Nandap confirmed that the crackdown order on #EndBadGovernance protests came directly from President Bola Tinubu.

She stated:

“We have Diaspora sponsors, they are on our watchlist. Any attempt they make to come into the country, we’ll be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.”

The Nigerian Immigration Service has intensified its operations by deploying additional officers to land borders and airports, ensuring stringent monitoring of entry and exit points. This move aims to prevent any foreign intervention in the protests that have captured national attention.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, disclosed that the agency has identified several #EndBadGovernance protest sponsors. Represented by DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya, Bichi mentioned that some bank accounts linked to these sponsors have been frozen, and the individuals, mostly residing abroad, are under close surveillance.

The announcement has sparked a flurry of reactions, highlighting the government’s determination to stifle the #EndBadGovernance movement and its supporters. With increased surveillance and the threat of immediate arrests, the government’s message is clear: dissent from abroad will not be tolerated.
