#EndBadGovernance: Is planned nationwide protest already yielding results?
The Federal Government announced on Monday that it has begun distributing an additional 10 trucks of 50kg of rice to each state, to be sold at designated centres for N40,000. This move addresses poverty and high living costs and halts planned nationwide protests.
Despite the impending August 1 nationwide protest, President Bola Tinubu has stated he is addressing the grievances of the youth, essentially “protesting on their behalf.” The Federal Executive Council (FEC) maintains that most demands from the protest organizers are already being addressed, thus negating the need for the protest.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the government’s actions to mitigate hardship, including the distribution of rice and ongoing efforts to improve food availability. He reiterated that the government is attentive to the needs of its citizens and is taking necessary steps to address them.

Additionally, the government has implemented measures such as the disbursement of student loans and employment initiatives for youth.
Efforts are also underway to reduce transportation costs through the CNG initiative, which is expected to lower expenses for both private car owners and public transport users.
The FEC has appealed to potential protesters to reconsider their plans, highlighting the risks of protests being hijacked and turning violent.
While acknowledging the democratic right to protest, the government urges citizens to recognize the ongoing efforts to meet their demands and avoid actions that could lead to unrest.
